A bit about me!
I've been a nurse for a long time and have always been interested in what can improve our health. Allopathic medicine is one form of health care, but alternative / complementary therapies have a role to play too - on all levels - physical, mental, emotional and spiritually.
My interest in complementary therapies started when my Mother-in-law used to tell me about the different treatments she'd had and I decided to try a Reiki session. I had such an amazing benefit from this over the next few weeks, feeling so calm, that I decided to learn Reiki for myself. From there it was no time till I was enrolled on the Reiki level 2 course, then Swedish, Onsite and Indian head massage courses! Once I completed those courses I became a member of the Scottish Massage (now Manual) Therapists Organisation (SMTO) and became fully insured to practise on 1st January 2004. I've done several courses since (a therapist can't have too many tools?!). But learning and health improvement is always on-going.
Over this time I have mainly worked from home in my dedicated therapy room, but have worked with CLAN in Stonehaven and Aberdeen, with Friends of Anchor at ARI, and now in the Macmillan Unit at the Balfour Hospital. I've worked various locations doing Onsite Massage / Corporate work in the Aberdeen area, and in 2012 at the County Show! And from January 2026 I am offering therapies in Orkney. At the moment I am working at the Suilven Centre in Kirkwall mostly at the weekends, and at Picky (The Pickaquoy Centre) on a Monday, day-time, and a Wednesday evening. I'm hoping to be working at home shortly in a dedicated therapy room once more!
I am married - there are no accordions on this page 😉 - with 2 grown up children, and enjoy walking, cycling, nature and reading. I have had regular Reflexology and Reiki sessions myself for years, and have also benefited from other healing and therapy modalities, including Biofeedback and Nutritional Therapy. I have also completed a Dru Yoga teacher training course and find yoga is a vital piece of daily life these days! I hope you find my website informative and please get in touch with any queries.
in light and grace, Ruth x
